The seven properties we compare
| Property | What we record | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Weight per pair | Grams and ounces; per glove where that is how the brand states it | Decides how much the glove intrudes between hand and rim |
| Seams | Position (external or internal), single or double | A seam inside the palm becomes a pressure point over a long stint |
| Palm | Material and grip treatment | Determines grip once the palm is damp, and how fast the surface wears |
| Back | Material and ventilation | Decides how much heat and moisture escape |
| Cuff and closure | Length, hook-and-loop or strap-free | Affects bulk at the wrist and compatibility with the rim |
| Sizes | Published range and sizing advice | Fit decides more about comfort than any other property |
| Price | List price in the currency the brand publishes | Comparability requires the original currency plus the conversion basis |
Touchscreen zones, care instructions, colourways and availability are recorded where published. Features and care requirements are considered in recommendations for specific use cases.
Where the data comes from
Sources are labelled on every page so the quality of a figure is visible:
- Manufacturer — the brand's own product page. The default source and the strongest for specifications.
- Retailer — a shop listing, used where the brand does not publish a value itself. Marked as such, because retailers copy and sometimes mistype.
- Third-party test — a published measurement by someone else, named and linked.
- Our measurement — our own scale, tape or thermal camera, with the method stated.
Currency conversions use the European Central Bank reference rate for the date named on the page. The original price in the original currency always appears alongside.
How we order a comparison
Where a property is published as a number, the order follows the number. The lightest glove list is sorted by published pair weight, so the glove with the lowest figure comes first — that is arithmetic, not opinion.
Where no single number exists, we group by construction and name the use case each group suits: a perforated palm for hands that sweat, a wide size range for hands at the ends of the scale, a stated torque rating for high-end direct drive. Every claim traces back to a published property in the table on the same page.
What we have not measured yet
The published data settles weight, materials, seams, sizes and price. It does not settle how warm a glove runs over a two-hour stint, how the grip holds once the palm is damp, or how the fabric survives repeated washing.
Those need a rig and instruments. The programme, in order:
- Scale measurement of every pair, size M, to fill the seven rows where brands publish no weight.
- Thermal imaging on a direct drive wheel under load, same room temperature, same session length for every glove.
- Grip measurement on a leather and an Alcantara rim, dry and damp.
- Wash cycles against the maker's own care instructions, checking grip surface and seams.
Results are published with raw data and the method, and the pages that depend on them are updated on the same day.
When a page changes
Every page carries the month it reflects and a date on every figure. Prices and availability move; a comparison without a date is not usable. Pages are reviewed quarterly and whenever a tracked model changes specification, and material changes are noted at the foot of the page.
Corrections
If a manufacturer or reader finds a value that does not match the source, write to the address in the legal notice with the figure and the page. Corrections are made on the page and noted in its change log.
Frequently asked
Do you give overall scores?
No. The comparisons sort by published properties and group by use case. A single composite number would hide which property drove it.
What does “no data” mean?
The manufacturer does not publish that value. It is not an estimate, a zero or an oversight on our part.
How often is the data checked?
Quarterly, and whenever a tracked model changes. Every figure carries the date it was read.
Why are prices in different currencies?
Because the makers publish in different currencies. The original figure stays, with a conversion at the ECB reference rate for the date named on the page.
